Bagheria

Bagheria or Baarìa in Sicilian, is a town in the province of Palermo, famous for its splendid historic villas and 18th-century palaces.

Villa Palagonia is one of the most famous historic residences in the city, also known as Villa dei Mostri. Superb and eccentric, designed by illustrious architects. It was already a destination for travelers on the Grand Tour in the 18th century. It was known as the “most original place in the world and famous throughout Europe”.

Villa Valguarnera “in all its beauty”, a magnificent work of art from the Italian eighteenth century. Its shape was conceived as a symbolic path from the earth to the celestial sphere, with the enhancement of the adjacent hill called ‘montagnola’ which dominates the view of Bagheria.

Palazzo Butera is the oldest noble residence in Bagheria, built by Giuseppe Branciforti, prince of Pietraperzia and count of Raccuja, who, having lost hope of the throne of Sicily, decided to retire to his possessions in Bagheria.

But not only villas and historic residences. The seaside village of Aspra is worth a visit, known for its calcarenite stone quarries and for the anchovies in salt and in oil exported all over the world. The Anchovy Museum founded by Michelangelo Balistreri is located here.

And finally, treat yourself to a relaxing walk along the seafront enjoying an excellent ice cream: doing it at sunset will be unforgettable!
