Aci Trezza

So characteristic as to inspire Homer’s odes for his Odyssey, Aci Trezza is a fraction of Aci Castello and a very bewitching small fishing village. The panorama is dominated by the 8 stacks, the lava ridges formed before Etna.

Aci Trezza (‘A Trizza in Sicilian) is a fishing center with an ancient and notable tradition, it is famous for its landscape. The village was officially founded at the end of the 17th century by Stefano Riggio who made it an important seaport and the pulsating center of local commercial life with numerous warehouses capable of containing oil, iron, cured meats and cheeses.

The panorama of Aci Trezza is dominated by the stacks of the Cyclops: eight picturesque basalt rocks which, according to legend, were thrown by Polyphemus at Ulysses during his escape. Not far from the coast (about 400 m away), there is the island of Lachea, identified with the Homeric island of Capre.
